About Buddhist Child Home

Buddhist Child Home was founded in 1996 by Mr. Laxman Basnet, who grew up in an orphanage himself. Moved by the kindness he experienced, he made it his mission to offer that same care and opportunity to other vulnerable children.

Located in Kathmandu, the home welcomes abandoned and orphaned children from all backgrounds. Rooted in Buddhist values of compassion and nonviolence, it provides not just shelter, but a nurturing family environment focused on emotional, spiritual, and academic growth. Many children simply call it home.

Bridge

Many children who once faced a future of uncertainty now dream boldly of becoming doctors, teachers, social workers, and more.

A Day in the Life at Buddhist Child Home

A day at Buddhist Child Home starts early with meditation and prayers, followed by a nourishing breakfast. The children then head to school, dressed in uniforms and equipped with school supplies, thanks to generous support.

After school, children do their homework, engage in group study, and play in the courtyard. They enjoy structured activities such as art, music, and cultural celebrations. Birthdays are celebrated with cake and laughter, and Nepalese festivals like Dashain and Tihar are observed as one big family.
